As a reader, it drives me crazy to be mired in poor grammar, dull images, and confusing particulars. As a writer, with each sentence I try to gain another inch of territory in the land of lucid storytelling. I always aim for clear writing that highlights content.

My particular expertise is in the areas of art, Hawaiian culture and history but I write for general audiences on a wide range of topics. I can tailor my words to fit the demands of any format, from books and magazine articles, to brochure or web copy.

I also work as an editor, performing both copyediting and content editing. Past projects have included book-length manuscripts and academic dissertations.

Recently I’ve added writing performance to my repertoire, taking my skills with poetry from private scribbling to public composition. It started as a self-dare – could I really set up on a sidewalk with my old manual typewriter and bang out a poem to order? My first customer told me the story of his marriage and asked me to write an appeal to his wife that they give their relationship another try. He smiled as he read my poem, then shook my hand, and took my words and his armful of roses home to his wife. Then I put a new sheet in the typewriter and wrote some more. Through Poetry in Motion I write poems for individuals or at events like wedding receptions, company functions or parties. Click here for Poetry in Motion details.
